Wage inflation: 2Q 2018 compensation costs rose at highest annual rate since 2008

Compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.6 percent, seasonally adjusted, for the 3-month period ending in June 2018. Wages and salaries increased 0.5 percent and benefit costs increased 0.9 percent. Year-on-year, compensation costs rose 2.8 percent, with wages and salaries up 2.8 percent and benefits rising 2.9 percent.

First quarter 2018 compensation costs up 0.8 percent and 2.7 percent year-on-year


Compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.8 percent, seasonally adjusted, for the 3-month period ending in March 2018. Wages and salaries (which make up about 70 percent of compensation costs) increased 0.9 percent, and benefits (which make up the remaining 30 percent of compensation) increased 0.7 percent.  Year-on-year, compensation costs rose by 2.7 percent, with wages up 2.7 percent and benefits rising 2.6 percent.

4Q 2017 compensation costs up 0.6 percent from 3Q 2017 and 2.6 percent year-on-year

Compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.6 percent for the 3-month period ending in December 2017, and were up 2.6 percent year-on-year. Wages and salaries (which make up about 70 percent of compensation costs) increased 0.5 percent, and benefits (which make up the remaining 30 percent of compensation) increased 0.5 percent.  Both of these indicators were up 2.5 percent year-on-year.

Employee compensation costs up 0.7 percent in 3Q 2017 and 2.5 percent year-on-year

Compensation costs for civilian workers increased 0.7 percent, seasonally adjusted, for the 3-month period ending in September 2017. Wages and salaries increased 0.7 percent, and benefits increased 0.8 percent. Costs increased 2.5 percent for the 12-month period ending in September 2017.
